Ten Reasons Gay Marriage is Un-American

I saw this posted on a BBS -- there was no attribution.

  1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
  2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
  3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
  4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
  5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
  6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
  7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
  8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
  9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
  10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

No gay marriage in the US in my mind has absolutely nothing to do with the bible, ethics, God, or the fake morals politicians try to convey; it has everything to do with how much money insurance companies stand to lose since we have no Natl. health care system. Think about the abuse: say two men or women are best friends since childhood. After college one gets a great job w/ benefits and the other is an intern w/ no benefits in sight for years. They fake a marriage so the other gets benefits - two for the price of a little more than one. Should this happen, it would force insurance companies into bankruptcy and crumble the system. Lobbyist's are working hard 24/7 feeding propaganda to make the world believe it's about morals, family values blah blah blah...like everything else in US politics.. is just about money, period.

Gay Marriage is just wrong anyway. At least Gays raising children is wrong.

a man and a woman who are best friends can also fake their marriage for insurance benefits. how do you stop that? or is that ok because they are straight? who is to say they aren't really gay? do you want them to prove their 'gay' to you? maybe you could sit on the end of their bed while they gay it up. you have some bizarre reasoning behind your views.

Firstly, if that wasn't a joke then whoever posted it is a moron. "Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children."
Who the hell would be so thick as to think that?

Secondly, anonymous number two, who the hell gave you a right to tell people what they can't do, get a life you red necked christian.

Third, I am not gay myself, I see nothing wrong with people being gay as long as they don't press their views onto myself.

Any other christians/catholics/bogans (they're all the same) who are against it really need to think about the fact that isn't it gods law to love everyone in the world regardless of race/gender etc. GAY PEOPLE ARE MORE HUMAN THAN YOU ARE!

Just wondering how this is even a debate. Why does anyone F@#$ing care. Why doesn't anyone just worry about themselves. why do they pry and try to regulate what others do. "If you don't like my fire, Don't come around."

you sound gay

I'm not gay...but that guy/gal who said gay marriage is just wrong needs to think outside the box a little. 200 years ago we said women shouldn't be educated. It's people like you who thought it was wrong to educate women because it would ruin our society. Think ahead of the times. It may not be normal in today's society but that doesn't mean it's wrong.

LOL at

""Firstly, if that wasn't a joke then whoever posted it is a moron. "Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children."

I always knew Americans didn't get sarcasm :)

#1 - How can you NOT understand that the post was sarcastic?

#2 - Two people getting married just for the insurance??? That could NEVER happen with two straight people. I mean straight people NEVER marry out of convenience.

#3 - Gays raising children is wrong? Yes, it's MUCH better to have straight parents who neglect or abuse their children than to have gay parents who provide them with a loving home.

#4 - "Sit at the end of their bed while they gay it up"...HAHAHAHAHA!!!! That made my day!

This post is good for the trash, you know nothing about the homosexuality and the fondation principe of the USA is the freedom. This post is only a religious charge against the homosexuality, a fear who dont have his place in a country such as the USA.

What's being argued here? If I recall there isn't a law in place prohibiting two people from having homosexual relations. If people wish to do that I believe it’s their sexual preference, and there isn’t any government agency prohibiting that. What is marriage really? Traditionally sponsored by a church, the act of which is recognized by the government. So in reality, what is being said here? That people with homosexual preferences have the right and can demand a change to the majority of church’s teachings, even though the churches are most likely the origin of what we know of as marriage itself? To what end? The reason why most heterosexual people get married is because they wish to start a family, and to build it “rightfully” under provisions of marriage, usually done for the sake of instilling some kind of religious sanctity of their union. Just because you are homosexual doesn’t mean you cannot adopt a child. I’ve known several people who have done that successfully. Also, the blatant generalization that heterosexual parents “neglect and abuse their children” is just as wrong as the sarcastic “homosexual parents will raise homosexual children.” If people with homosexual preferences wish to live together, to raise a child together, and to generally love each other, then to my knowledge there is no law in place prohibiting those actions, though each will require great planning and communication, just like any successful marriage. Basically it boils down to people with homosexual preferences wishing to be recognized, and or eligible to receive benefits sponsored by business and or the government. If that’s the case, then a civil union is what’s needed, not marriage. I am aware of DOMA (look it up if you don’t know), but also aware of the main contribution a marriage provides, specifically to the government. In this day and age, economies and nations are expanding. Our nation needs bodies, new people to fill jobs and provide services to build a better workforce. No matter how much one argues, there is no denying that the government will not be proactive in distributing benefits where it knows there will be no return. Oh wait… how to explain welfare then…

So many flaws to this. Questions needed to be asked to the person who wrote the post.

1. What is considered Real American?
2. How many people in the world wears eyeglasses/contacts, uses polyester and lives in a house with a air condition.
3. If straight marriage encourages people to be straight, why are there still gay people?
4. If sentence 4 is true, why is Hillary Clinton running for president and why are there so many interracial kids?
5. Would gay couple marry for fun just because it's fun to joke with family and friends?
6. If the world is overpopulated, why do we need more children?
7. If straight parents raise straight kids only, why are there gay people in the world?
8. If science was a religion, what other defensive statement you have besides religion?
9. If children can't succeed in the world without a male and a female, why do most kids do better academically with divorced family.
10. No necessary to comment because this post is too hypocritical.

Gays can get married, of course. Anyone can. Marriage is simply between a man and a woman. That's what marriage is. If gays want to create some union with someone of their same sex, they can call it a "union". But "marriage" ought to be reserved for the union between a man and a woman.

It should stun me that there are actually people who did not recognize the post as being a prime example of satire, but it doesn't.

Personally, I think more people should spend time reading books - yes, real books, and not just your Stephen King novel. Read the classics, read non-fiction history, philosophy, government and politics. Perhaps then people would become semi-critical thinkers who are able to postulate their own ideas and opinions instead of repeating uneducated drivel. I'm gay, but I think this is a much more important issue for our society than gay "marriage".

Oh - and to "Ande", good try, but you fail to mention that until very recently many states still had laws against homosexual sex on the books. And a law preventing homosexuals from adopting children was just passed this last election in one state. And a marriage can and does occur regularly outside of any religious setting. It's called the State. It issues licenses for marriage as a matter of law, without theological involvement. You can get married in a church and have your union blessed as sacred, etc, by whatever clergy heads the church, but without a legal marriage license issued by the state, it is not considered a legal union, simply a religious ceremony. So stop trying to bury it in words like civil unions or domestic partnerships. Unless these alternatives provide the same benefits, rights and responsibilities as "marriage" then they are worthless and an insult to any ethical, intelligent person. But we are sadly lacking in those persons these days.
